Privacy policy
Last updated: 2 November 2026
This policy explains what happens to your data when you use playtinty.com. Tinty is run by Afiq, an independent developer, who is responsible for this data. You can reach me at contact@playtinty.com.
The short version
- You don't need an account, and Tinty never asks for your name or email to play.
- Your progress is kept in your own browser.
- If you play Hard or Daily, or save a nickname, the server keeps an anonymous player record, your nickname and your ranked scores.
- Your nickname and ranked scores are public on the leaderboards.
- Google Analytics measures how the site is used. It sets cookies, except in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland.
- Google may use cookies to show ads, and you can control how.
What is saved on your device
Tinty uses your browser's local storage to keep these items. They stay on your device, apart from the player details described in the next section.
- Your best scores, color collection and Daily results
- Your settings, such as sounds, Show letters and the last mode you played
- Any game in progress
- Your player ID, nickname and a private token that identifies you to the server
You can remove all of this at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser. Your player record and scores stay on the server, and without the token you can't use that player again from this browser.
What is stored on the server
The first time you start a Hard or Daily game, or save a nickname, the site creates an anonymous player for you. Easy games don't need one. The server stores:
- Your player record: a random ID, a scrambled (hashed) copy of your token, your nickname and when the record was created.
- Your ranked games: for each Hard or Daily game, the mode, the puzzle seed, its status and when it started and finished.
- Your scores: the score, orders filled, number of moves, and the date and week.
When you finish a ranked game, your moves are sent to the server so it can check the score. The moves are replayed and then discarded. Easy games aren't sent to the server. The game database doesn't store your IP address, and Tinty doesn't ask for your name, email or location. Your IP address is only used in the moment, to limit how many new players one address can create.
Your nickname, scores and ranks are shown publicly on the leaderboards, so please don't use your real name or other personal details as a nickname.
Analytics
Tinty uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit, which pages they use and how the site performs. When you open a page, Google Analytics sets cookies and receives details such as the pages you view, the links you click, your device and browser, and your approximate location, which it works out from your IP address. It also receives game events: when a game starts and ends, its mode, score, orders and moves, your rank, and which share button you press. Tinty doesn't send Analytics your nickname or player ID.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, Analytics is told not to set cookies, and sends Google these measurements without them.
You can block these cookies in your browser settings or install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on. The game keeps working if you do.
Advertising and cookies
Tinty may show ads from Google AdSense to help cover its costs. Tinty itself doesn't set advertising cookies, but when ads run:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads.
- Google's advertising cookies allow it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some other vendors' personalized ads at aboutads.info.
Google explains its practices in how Google uses information from sites that use its services. If you opt out, you may still see ads, but they won't be based on your browsing.
If ads run and you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you'll be asked for your choice in a consent message before they use cookies or similar technology for personalization. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The game keeps working if you do.
Other services
- Cloudflare hosts the site and its database. To deliver and protect the site, it processes technical details of each request, such as your IP address and browser type, and may keep them in logs. It also measures visits and page speed without cookies. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Google Fonts supplies the site's fonts, so your browser connects to Google, which receives your IP address. See Google's privacy policy.
These companies may process data in countries other than your own.
Sharing a result
Your result picture and text are made on your device. They only leave it if you choose to share them. If you pick Threads, WhatsApp or X, that service receives what you share under its own privacy policy.
Why this data is used
Tinty uses this data to run the game, verify scores, show leaderboards, prevent abuse and keep the site working. Where laws such as the GDPR apply, this rests on Tinty's legitimate interest in providing a fair game that you've chosen to play. Analytics helps show what to improve, and where the law requires consent for its cookies, Tinty doesn't set them. Personalized advertising rests on your consent where the law requires it. Your data isn't sold for money.
How long data is kept
Player records, games and scores are kept for as long as the leaderboards run, or until you ask for them to be deleted. Data in your browser stays until you clear it. Google Analytics data is deleted after the retention period set in Google Analytics.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR, UK GDPR, California law and Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act, you may have the right to:
- access or correct your data, or get a copy of it
- have your data deleted
- object to or limit how it is used
- withdraw consent, or opt out of ads based on your activity
- complain to your local data protection authority
To make a request, email contact@playtinty.com with your nickname. You can change your nickname yourself on the leaderboard page.
Children
Tinty is made for a general adult audience and isn't directed at children under 13. It doesn't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has shared personal information as a nickname, contact me and I'll remove it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will appear on this page with a new date at the top.
